Sunday night’s game between the Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles was a mismatch on paper, but did not disappoint.

87. Final. 16. 54. 27

Quarterback play was definitely not the greatest in this week’s Sunday night game as both Cam Newton and Sam Bradford both struggled to get something going. This defensive matchup did not go in the Philadelphia Eagles‘ favor, however, as the Carolina Panthers moved to 6-0 on the season after a big road victory.

Offensively, it was more of a ground-based attack for both teams, but that ultimately led to the demise of the Eagles as DeMarco Murray did not have his best game, rushing the ball 18 times for 65 yards while being out-rushed by Ryan Mathews.

Cam Newton also had to rely on the run, but a win’s a win and the Panthers remain undefeated heading into Week 8.

Three Stars

Jonathan Stewart was an absolute horse for the Panthers in this one, running the ball 24 times for 125 yards, but not reaching the end zone.

Ryan Mathews deserves some recognition for the Eagles, as he led Philadelphia in rushing yards despite carrying the ball only six times. He had 97 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Despite having a poor game passing the ball, Cam Newton did give his team the best chance to win. He did throw a touchdown, but had three interceptions, accounting for 197 yards through the air. Newton also added 20 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Highlights

Odds

Carolina came in as a three-point favorite and the over/under was set at 45.5 points. The Panthers covered the spread, beating the Eagles by 11. However, the over was not achieved as both teams combined for 43 points.

Next Week

Philadelphia has a bye in week eight, but will come back the following week to take on the Dallas Cowboys in an NFC East divisional game. The victor of that one will stay out of the basement of the division — all division contests are huge.

Carolina will play the Monday night game next week at home against the Indianapolis Colts. The Panthers will look to stay on top of the NFC South, but some more offensive output will likely be required to take down Andrew Luck.
