According to reports, the Los Angeles Dodgers will interview Darin Erstad for their managerial opening.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking for the right manager to take their expensive, yet talented playoff club and turn it into a World Series-winning club. After mutually parting ways with Don Mattingly, the team has been scouring for just the right manager to lead their team.

That man could be someone who is a fan favorite on the other side of town. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Los Angeles Dodgers are set to interview former Los Angeles Angels All-Star and World Champion, Darin Erstad.

Erstad, of course, was a fan favorite for Angels fans and played with heart and hustle every game en route two All-Star appearances. He also has managerial experience at the collegiate level, as he is the current head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

He knows the area well and might be what the Los Angeles Dodgers need in a manager. However, there is a difference between coaching collegiately, and being put in charge of a team with a $300 million-plus payroll. The Dodgers could very well opt for someone with big league experience, but they’re doing their due diligence by interviewing Erstad.

It would be an ironic move to have a former Angel as manager for the Dodgers, as a former Dodger great, Mike Scioscia is currently managing the Angels.

Erstad is said to be one of the smartest minds in the game and his job and success at a top college program proves he’s fit to be a manager in the game. The Dodgers have also reportedly been linked to the likes of Gabe Kapler, Phil Nevin and others around the league.

Will he be fit to lead the Dodgers? That remains to be seen if they hire him.
