FanDuel has issued a statement regarding Pierre Garcon’s class action lawsuit against them

Washington Redskins veteran wide receiver Pierre Garcon filed a class action lawsuit on Friday afternoon on behalf of all NFL players against FanDuel. Garcon and the players are suing the daily fantasy sports site for using players’ names and likenesses without the consent of said players. Now FanDuel has responded to the lawsuit.

As reported by ProFootballTalk, FanDuel issued a statement on Friday evening saying that Garcon and the players’ lawsuit was “without merit.” FanDuel went on to say there are laws in place that allow “fantasy operators” to make use of players’ names and likenesses.

From where this situation currently stands, it’s impossible to know how things are going to play out. We don’t know the actual specifics that Garcon cited in the lawsuit he filed that are the crux of his case against FanDuel, so it’s hard to speculate as to how strong of a case the Redskins wide receiver and the NFL Players Association have without knowing all of the facts. Unsurprisingly, all we know is that Garcon and the NFLPA think that they have grounds and FanDuel disagrees.

Matters regarding daily fantasy sports only seem to get more complex and more troubling with each passing day. We’ll have to wait and see whether or not this is another wrinkle in that line of thinking or just an ultimately futile lawsuit from the NFLPA.
