Florida Gators vs Georgia Bulldogs

The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party will get underway on Saturday afternoon as the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs do battle in Jacksonville, FL at EverBank Field in one of the premier annual SEC showdowns of every season. The Bulldogs will be looking to carry on without star running back Nick Chubb, who was lost for the season with a knee injury two weeks ago, behind his replacement in Sony Michel and up-and-down quarterback Greyson Lambert. The Gators will look to stay alive atop the SEC after losing their last time out and will look for Treon Harris, Vernon Hargreaves and the rest of Jim McElwain’s bunch to get the job done in one of their biggest rivalry games.

Keys to Victory

This game obviously has a much different feel for the Bulldogs than many thought it would at the start of the season. With Chubb now out of the lineup, Georgia is now relying upon another sophomore running back in Sony Michel and leaning more heavily upon Greyson Lambert to get the job done through the air. After a poor per-carry average from Michel last week in a win over the Missouri Tigers, trying to move the ball on the ground could again be a chore against a resilient Florida run defense. Subsequently, the Bulldogs could need a big game for Lambert, who has been quite inconsistent in his first season as the starter for Georgia. How he performs in this rivalry game could determine the Bulldogs’ fortunes.

Florida isn’t completely in the clear heading into this game as this will only be their second game since the suspension of Will Grier and with Treon Harris as their starting quarterback. He put up a respectable fight and performance against the LSU Tigers two weeks ago, but we haven’t seen enough to know what to expect in terms of consistency and in terms of how he’ll perform in one of the biggest games of the season. Much like with their opponents, the outcome of the game could come down to Florida’s quarterback play.

Prediction

As often is the case with college football rivalry games, anything can happen on Saturday afternoon between Georgia and Florida. However, I have zero faith in Greyson Lambert if he’s relied upon to make plays against the Gators defense. I think that this one winds up being close, but that a mistake or two from Lambert will ultimately allow the Gators to move to 7-1.

Final Score: Florida Gators: 27, Georgia Bulldogs: 21
