Texas A&M Head Coach Kevin Sumlin is opting to go with the dual-threat quarterback Kyler Murray in the Aggies’ home game vs. the South Carolina Gamecocks

After seeing starting quarterback Kyle Allen struggle mightily in Texas A&M’s last two games, both divisional losses to Alabama and Ole Miss, the Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin opened up the starting quarterback competition. Sumlin will start true freshman Kyler Murray on Saturday, a home game for the Aggies against the cross-divisional opponent South Carolina, according to a report from TexAgs.com.

Murray is the son of former Texas A&M quarterback Kevin Murray and came to College Station as a top dual-threat playmaker. It seems as though Sumlin is missing the elusiveness associated with a dual-threat passer, as his offensive line is shaky now that many of the program’s stars are now playing on Sundays.

Kyler Murray has played some in his true freshman season. He is 17-of-31 passing for 167 yards, a touchdown and two picks. Murray has also rushed the football 18 times for 92 yards.

This seems like the right game for Texas A&M to use a new starting quarterback. South Carolina is likely not making a bowl game, especially after the abrupt retirement of the Head Ball Coach Steve Spurrier. Even though he is a true freshman, Murray had a perfect high school record as a starter at 43-0, so that bodes well for the Aggies when they take on possibly the worst team in the SEC on Saturday at Kyle Field.

Texas A&M is out of the College Football Playoff picture with their two SEC West losses. If Sumlin isn’t satisfied with the play of Kyle Allen at quarterback, Saturday is the perfect time to usher in the Kyler Murray Era of Gig ‘Em Nation.
