The NBA D-League Draft kicks off today at 2:00pm EST, so naturally we have our NBA D-League Mock Draft. It’s an exciting time for many prospects as they hope to be selected and have a chance to make a team via training camp.

Draft picks in the D-League aren’t guaranteed anything, really. Players selected in the 5th round can be kept on opening day rosters and 1st rounders can be let go. Obviously the earlier picks have more upside and with teams doing their homework the higher the pick, the more likely you are to earn a spot.

Trades have been out in full force and you can catch a great roundup of those moves on the D-League official site. While the original plan was to list each prospect available that proved to be daunting as their are a record 290 players in the draft pool this year, however, the D-League has you covered for that as well.

Here are some quick tidbits before jumping into the mock:

  • Rio Grande Valley Vipers hold 3 first round picks (No. 6, 10 & 12)
  • Iowa Energy hold 3 first round picks (No. 3, 4 & 9)
  • Delaware holds 2 first round pick (No. 5 & 8)
  • Only the first 5 rounds are required with the remaining 3 being optional
  • Trades cannot be done during the draft

With the number of prospects available there’s no way for me to know about all of these players, so I went with the players I know and my instincts on how this league operates, the style of play and past drafts to compile this mock draft of the first round.

  1. Idaho Stampede – Perry Jones III
  2. Westchester Knicks – Jimmer Fredette
