Ohio State starting quarterback J.T. Barrett was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while impaired.

Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett has been arrested. The arrest occurred near campus and is reportedly for operating a motor vehicle while impaired.

The story originally came from Eleven Warriors, who cited two sources within the Columbus Police Department. They state that Barrett tried to evade an OVI checkpoint, and took a breathalyzer test and barely exceeded the legal limit 0.08, though it doesn’t really matter since Barrett is under 21, the legal drinking age.

The Buckeyes don’t play on Saturday, so this won’t affect a game or the team at the last minute, but it will likely have an impact on the rest of the season. Barrett was recently named the starter after Cardale Jones was originally under center to start the season.

Ironically, it was reportedly Jones who came and picked up Barrett.

Jones wasn’t playing well and the decision was made to insert Barrett into the starting lineup. If Ohio State elects to punish Barrett, Jones would likely be reinserted into the starting line up as Barrett gets side-lined. Barrett could be subject to a two-week suspension under the Ohio State Department of Athletics’ student-athlete drug and alcohol program.

One of the most terrifying parts of this story is that the arrest occurred close to a crowded campus, especially in the wake of the tragedy that occurred at Oklahoma State during their homecoming parade when a drunk driver ran into a crowd of spectators.

Though driving while impaired anywhere is incredibly dangerous and someone is almost always at risk.

[UPDATE:] Ohio State has suspended Barrett for just one game, it is possible he got the two weeks but the second week ends before the Illinois game.
