Could the No. 12 Oklahoma State Cowboys keep a perfect record after traveling to Lubbock to face Texas Tech?

Not many people expected the Oklahoma State Cowboys to begin the season 7-0 or to be ranked in the top-15, but they have exceeded all expectations thus far and the offense has been much more impressive than their defense through nine weeks.

That offense was evident against the Texas Tech Red Raiders this week, but unfortunately, their defense slowed them down. Both quarterbacks had prolific weeks as Patrick Mahomes and Mason Rudolph both lit up the opposing defenses while Cowboys’ second-stringer J.W. Walsh also got some quality snaps.

Texas Tech is no easy win, even for an unbeaten team, however, as the Cowboys had to travel to Lubbock, Texas, to try and defeat one of the better offenses in the Big 12.

In the end, Oklahoma State was just far too strong for the Red Raiders as it was clear the better team didn’t wear down.

Three Stars

Mason Rudolph was solid all game and had good numbers even though J.W. Walsh stole some snaps. He finished with 285 yards and two touchdowns with a pick on 21-of-35 passing.

You can’t overlook how solid of a game Patrick Mahomes had for the Red Raiders. He finished with 480 yards and four touchdowns on 38-of-55 completions.

The last one is a tie between both teams’ top receivers as Oklahoma State’s James Washington had four catches, but made them count for 200 yards and two scores. Texas Tech’s Jakeem Grant had 13 receptions for 178 yards and a score.

Odds

Oklahoma State was a 2.5-point favorite and the over/under 78.5. The over was nearly reached in the first half as the scores was 38-28 Texas Tech. Clearly they achieved the over, with 123 total points and the Cowboys also covered the spread.

Next Week

The Cowboys’ schedule won’t be getting any easier next week as Oklahoma State will be hosting No. 5 TCU. A win in that one would be huge for the momentum of the Cowboys, but they will need to play much better defense against the nation’s most dangerous quarterback, Trevone Boykin.

Texas Tech will be traveling to face the West Virginia Mountaineers in week 10. This won’t be a simple contest, especially since the Mountaineers have been reeling lately and are hungry for a win.
