The Oakland Raiders dismantled the New York Jets on Sunday

34. 28. 20. 30. Final

Many people surmised that it would be a defensive war between the Oakland Raiders and New York Jets inside O.co Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. However, Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick left the game early on with a ligament injury in his hand putting Geno Smith in the game as his replacement, which all but ended the Jets’ day at the office before it ever began. To make things worse, their vaunted defense got absolutely torched by Derek Carr and the Raiders offense from the jump in Oakland.

Carr was hot from the get-go in this game as he threw three touchdown passes in the first half, including a beautiful deep ball to Andre Holmes and a 36-yard touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree where Crabtree ran right through three would-be tacklers on his way to the endzone. Carr added another score to start the second half and then set up his team for a couple of field goals. Geno Smith was not quite as effective (despite what his final stats may look like) as he made some noticeably poor decisions and threw a pick that was unquestionably his fault. He put together a couple drives late, but was ultimately playing poorly in crunch time until he too was injured on the Jets’ final drive, forcing Fitzpatrick back into action for a few plays on the final drive. Geno ultimately came back in to wrap things up. It didn’t matter who was quarterbacking, though, as it was the Raiders coming out on top in Week 8.

Three stars

Derek Carr continued to show that he might actually be a viable NFL quarterback as he threw all over a secondary considered to be one of the best in the league. Carr finished the day going 23-36 for 333 yards and four touchdowns.

Latavius Murray was huge for the Raiders in keeping a balanced attack as the back finished with 20 carries for 113 yards and also added a six-yard reception to his total as well.

Michael Crabtree had a big day with the Jets focusing on Amari Cooper in the passing game. The veteran Crabtree hauled in seven catches for 102 yards and a touchdown.

Highlights

"Crabtree breaks two tackles at once and then one more on his way into the endzone."

Odds

The Jets came into this game as three-point favorites on the road, which they clearly failed to cover in the big loss. However, the two teams did manage to hit on the over of 43.5 points.

Next Week

The Jets will be back in New York next week as they will try and pick up a now much-needed victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Oakland has another tough test next week as they go on the road to face the Pittsburgh Steelers to try and pick up their third win in a row.
