The St. Louis Rams hadn’t been getting much going on offense in the first half against the San Francisco 49ers. Their only points through the first quarter came off of a safety and their offense hadn’t been particularly close to finding the endzone. Luckily, rookie running back Todd Gurley wears a Rams uniform and he broke things wide open for St. Louis early in the second quarter.

On the first play of the Rams’ sixth drive of the game, the Rams gave the ball to Gurley up the middle. The budding superstar busted through the hole with a crazy amount of burst and then outran the 49ers defense all the way to the endzone for a 71-yard touchdown run:

A man of Gurley’s size and strength shouldn’t also have that kind of vision, explosiveness, and speed also at his disposal. That’s just not fair for opposing defenses.

Gurley has been so incredible since getting on the field after he recovered from an ACL tear in college that this is the type of play you almost expect to see from him in every single game. The rookie is quickly establishing himself not just as a Rookie of the Year candidate, but as the league’s next superstar.
