Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones says the officials “screwed up” by giving Seattle consecutive timeouts

The owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones was obviously upset by the gaffe officials made during his team’s 13-12 loss on Sunday. The owner who usually sides with the NFL had no problem letting those feelings be known by saying the men in stripes “screwed up” in allowing the Seattle Seahawks to use back-to-back timeouts to avoid a penalty late in the first half.

Dallas was trailing 10-3 in the defensive battle and facing a 4th down with just three yards to go. Seattle had just used a timeout but somehow still managed to have too many men on the field. Before Dallas could snap the ball and be awarded a first down, the officials stopped play because Seattle had called for a timeout.

Rather than correctly call a penalty on the Seahawks, the refs simply explained to Seattle head coach Pete Carroll that he could not call a timeout. The stoppage in play allowed the ‘Hawks to get their extra man off the field and forced Dallas to kick the field goal despite the fact they should have been awarded a first down.

It was the second mistake made by the same officials who awarded Seattle tight end Luke Willson a touchdown despite visual evidence he was down just short of the goal line. While neither play guaranteed a different outcome for the game, it makes sense that Jones would be upset by the blunders that occurred in a one point loss.
