Luke Willson scored a touchdown for Seattle without the ball crossing the goal line

The Week 8 matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys was nothing like the matchup we would’ve expected coming into the 2015 season as the Cowboys were still without Tony Romo and the Seahawks continued to look inconsistent and shaky. Seattle scored the only touchdown of the affair and ultimately edged out the Cowboys 13-12. However, their one touchdown may not have actually been a touchdown.

Here’s the 22-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Luke Willson that was the only touchdown in this game:

From that angle, it would appear that Willson broke the plane for six points. However, the play was reviewed and that gave us the reverse angle that showed us this:

From that angle, it seems pretty undeniable that the ball has yet to break the plane and Willson’s backside is on the turf, making him down. However, the officials determined after a review that they would stick with the call on the field of a touchdown.

Understanding that there has to be incontrovertible visual evidence to overturn the call on the field, that still from the reverse angle seems pretty irrefutable from where I’m sitting. Even if the other angle makes it seem like Willson got in, that pretty plainly looks like he didn’t as he’s down before crossing the goal line.

Regardless, the play stood as a touchdown and the Seahawks went on to get the victory. It’ll be interesting to see if the league has anything to say about that call in the coming days. Similarly, you have to wonder if any in the always outspoken Dallas organization will have anything to say about the ordeal.
