5 trade destinations for Colin Kaepernick
By Dani Bostick
3. New York Jets
The Jets have a quarterback crisis. Ryan Fitzpatrick has a torn ligament in his thumb while Geno Smith has a “big bruise” on his non-throwing shoulder, according to head coach Todd Bowles.
The situation is so dire that third-string, unproven rookie Bryce Petty is taking reps with the team in case he is called on to fill in in the Jets upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
This is a desperate situation for the Jets, so bringing in Kaepernick mid-season could provide a layer of security for a team in need of a healthy, experienced quarterback.
Bowles is familiar with Kaepernick from his time in the NFC West as defensive coordinator with the Arizona Cardinals from 2013-2014. He is in a position to evaluate Kaepernick and decide if he is a good fit for the Jets system.
The Jets have an excellent defense, so finding someone to lead the team on the offense would give them a better chance of being legitimate playoff contenders. Unfortunately for the Jets, the situation is rather urgent. Fitzpatrick can’t use his left hand, and Geno Smith is struggling with a painful injury as well.
Kaepernick might make sense.
