Sam Bradford reportedly turned down a huge deal from the Philadelphia Eagles to extend his contract.

The Philadelphia Eagles made big moves before the season to switch up their quarterback situation, bringing in Sam Bradford by trading away Nick Foles. There were questions about the commitment to Bradford, but the Eagles appear — and aywas have appeared — to be ready to make Bradford their quarterback of the future. Howard Eskin of 94WIP in Philadelphia reported that before the season started, the Eagles offered Bradford a huge deal, that he ended up turning down.

As Eskin elaborates on CBS Philly, they were big fans of Bradford, and were fully prepared to offer him $18 million a year for four years, adding up to be $72 million over four years. Bradford turned the deal down, maybe because he didn’t want to be on the Eagles at the end of the year, or maybe because he thought he could get more.

If he turned it down for the latter option, he’s going to find himself thrown off at the end of the season, because the chances of him getting a contract this big are very slim, especially from Philadelphia.

Bradford has thrown 10 interceptions in seven games, which is more than the nine touchdowns he’s thrown this year. His best completion percentage in a single game has been 71%, but he’s averaging out at just 61%, not fantastic. He’s been a big reason that the Eagles have struggled, currently sitting at 3-4 in the division, but still with a chance to get the division win since the leading New York Giants have a record of just 4-4.

If there’s anything clear that Bradford has done this year, it’s prove that he’s not worth $18 million a year. Lots of fans are calling for the Eagles to go in a different direction as far as quarterbacks go in the offseason, but it’s not clear what that other direction is. Bradford just may be their best option. Him turning down this massive deal may end up being good for Philly, because they can now get him for cheaper if he is willing to come back.
