The Toronto Raptors have invested in their young core with a contract extension, giving Terrence Ross nearly $33 million over the next three years to stay in Canada with the team.

The newest benefactor of the new NBA market is Toronto Raptors swingman Terrence Ross, who despite being a young role player on the defending Atlantic Division champions will be making 10 figures for the next three years. The Raptors front office are buying on their young core and are showing it with a major investment in Ross.

Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that just before the midnight deadline to sign an extension, both sides decided to pull the trigger on a deal that makes Ross highly paid to be a depth piece behind DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry.

Ross also announced that he will be staying with the Raptors, telling the fans on Twitter that he is excited to stay in Canada for the next four years after signing an extension and deciding not to test the open market next summer.

Ross is a player who can provide an impact with his athleticism as well as his outside shooting. Often streaky, the Raptors will be hoping that Ross can grow into a more consistent player over the duration of his contract.

If that can happen, Ross will be worth the $33 million investment. A player with high upside, don’t expect the Raptors to regret paying to lock down Ross at the end of this newest contract.
