Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate was so surprised by the Detroit Lions’s decision to fire their GM and president that only emojis would suffice.

The Detroit Lions fired both their general manager and president earlier today in what should be a complete rebuilding of their coaching staff and front office. Wide receiver Golden Tate was as surprised as everybody else was when Adam Schefter dropped the news.

At 1-7, the Detroit Lions are clearly heading in the wrong direction. After taking some promising steps forward over the past few years, the Lions have taken several huge steps back this year. The Lions appear to be ready to completely clean house. Head coach Jim Caldwell could be gone as soon as the Detroit Lions hire their new general manager.

The front office and coaching staff aren’t the only ones who might be swept out. Some of the players might be as well. Golden Tate could be one of them. After having his first 1,000-yard season last year with 1,331 receiving yards, Tate has taken a pretty big step back. He has 377 receiving yards in eight games this season. That ranks second on the Lions, but that probably says more about how bad the Lions have been as opposed to how good Tate has been.

Tate is in the second year of a five-year deal worth up to $31,000,000. If he is cut after this season, the Lions would responsible for roughly $13,000,000 over the next three seasons. They can cut him after 2016 and only owe him about $7,000,000 over the next two seasons.
