The Houston Rockets will make a serious push to sign Kevin Durant after his contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder expires.

The Houston Rockets will attempt to sign another well-known superstar to their already stacked roster next summer.

Kurt Helin of NBCSports.com tweeted on Friday that the Rockets will make it their first priority to sign Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant, who will become a free agent after the 2015-2016 season.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is known to swing for the fences and recruit star players to join his Rockets, who are becoming one of the powerhouses of the Western Conference. Two summers ago the Rockets made a heavy push to sign Carmelo Anthony, however they were not able to so.

Last year, Morey made two keen transactions that brought in Josh Smith and Corey Brewer. While the acquisitions of Smith and Brewer might not be terribly flashy, the two players were key to the Rockets’ trip to the Western Conference Finals.

This summer the Rockets kept most of their supporting cast from last year’s deep playoff run, but made a splash by adding former Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson, giving the team a strong playmaker to supplement star guard James Harden.

Houston is one of the many teams that will try and court Durant. There is no guarantee that Durant will leave the Thunder. Durant is in his 9th year in the league and has not played for a different organization. Among the many teams that are trying to recruit Durant are the Washington Wizards, who trying to lure Durant with a pitch to come home. (Durant grew up in Washington D.C.).

The 2014 MVP has had a successful return to the court after an injury-plagued 2014-2015 season, dealing with a serious foot injury. In six games this season, Durant is averaging 29.8 points (second in the NBA), 6.2 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks. In addition, he is shooting an amazing 42.5% from behind the arc.
