After he appeared to have the all-time passing yards record locked up, Peyton Manning threw an interception before the Indianapolis Colts drained the remaining six minutes from the clock.

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is already a lock to make it to the Hall of Fame, as he is currently playing the 18th season of his historic career. He had already broken the all-time record for touchdown passes in the 2014 season and has extended his record to 539 to distance himself even further from former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre. He came close to breaking another one of Favre’s records by reaching the most passing yards in NFL history, but he is still three yards short.

In addition to breaking the all-time touchdown passes record, Manning has matched Favre by beating all 32 teams in the NFL. Favre accomplished this with the Minnesota Vikings in 2009 before Manning pulled this off in the Broncos’ 2014 season opener. Manning appeared to be on track to break the passing yards record against the Indianapolis Colts too. A defensive hold during a Colts field goal attempt gave the Colts an automatic first down and enabled them to kneel and run the clock out.

Manning had thrown an interception when the Broncos were down, 27-24, and the Broncos never got the ball back after that drive that looked like a sure bet for Manning to break Favre’s record. Favre held the record for touchdown passes with 508 after finishing his career in 2010, but Manning topped it in Week 7 of the 2014 season.
