According to Vegas, Alabama running back Derrick Henry is now the favorite for this year’s Heisman Trophy.

There’s still a lot of football to be played this season, but as things stand now, it appears Alabama running back Derrick Henry is the new frontrunner for the coveted Heisman Trophy. Henry had a great game last Saturday against LSU and turned the heads of the oddsmakers.

According to Brett McMurphy of ESPN, LSU running back Leonard Fournette, the favorite for much of the year, now trails Henry in the race for the award.

The two running backs squared off last Saturday in the biggest game in college football so far this season. While Fournette had all of the attention heading into the game, it’s Henry who’s being talked about now.

The Alabama junior turned in a stellar performance in front of a national audience. He rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns. Fournette, on the other hand, melted under the big lights, rushing for a mere 31 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown.

For the season, Fournette still leads the nation with 1,383 rushing yards, while Henry sits fifth with 1,254 yards. Henry’s 17 rushing touchdowns has him tied for the lead, with Fournette right on his heels with 16.

Heisman voting, especially at this point in the season, regularly rides the tide from week to week. That’s the case now, as Henry’s game against LSU is currently fresh in everyone’s mind. Fournette certainly has the skill to jump back into the lead spot, but he’ll have to have a big game soon to erase this one from memory.

For now, Henry is the man everyone is chasing.
