Jason Campbell is supposedly being lured out of retirement by the Indianapolis Colts, who need a backup quarterback after Andrew Luck’s lacerated kidney.
The Indianapolis Colts are in dire need of a backup quarterback. With starter Andrew Luck out 2-6 weeks with a lacerated kidney, 40-year-old Matt Hasselbeck becomes the starter. Reportedly, the Colts are pushing for former NFL starter Jason Campbell to come out of retirement and back up Hasselbeck in Indianapolis.
Per source, Colts are trying to lure QB Jason Campbell to unretire. He played for Browns the year Rob Chudzinski was the team's head coach.

While he wasn’t spectacular as a starter (32-47 career record in 79 starts), Jason Campbell developed a great reputation as a backup in his final three years in the league. Campbell served as Jay Cutler’s backup in Chicago in 2012, started half of the Cleveland Brown’s game in 2013, and backed up Andy Dalton in Cincinnati last year before retiring.
The reason for the Colts’ push to bring Campbell out of retirement is that he played for newly named offensive coordinator Rod Chudzinski during their time together in Cleveland in 2013. Campbell was a collegiate standout at Auburn and was a former first round pick by the Washington Redskins in 2005.
In his nine-year NFL career, Campbell completed 60.3 percent of his passes for 16,771 yards, 87 touchdowns, and 60 interceptions. Though didn’t pan out as the franchise quarterback for the Washington Redskins (20-32 record from 2006 to 2009), he actually played over-.500 ball as the starter for the Oakland Raiders (11-7 from 2010 to 2011).
Campbell won’t likely see the field should he come out of retirement to play for the AFC South-leading Colts, but would go a long way in making the struggling 2015 feel about starting a 40-year-old quarterback in Matt Hasselbeck. What is perhaps most important with regard to Jason Campbell is if he is even remotely in football shape. Chudzinski may want him, but will Campbell put on the pads again this time for Indianapolis?
