Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed James Starks will be the No. 1 running back for Week 10 against the Detroit Lions.

The Green Bay Packers have shaken up the depth chart as the team prepares for a divisional matchup against the Detroit Lions. Head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed on Wednesday that James Starks will be atop the running back depth chart for Week 10.

Star running back Eddie Lacy has been struggling in his third season. After scoring 20 rushing touchdowns in his first 31 games, he has just 308 yards and two touchdowns on 83 carries.

With the Packers tied with the Minnesota Vikings for first in the NFC North at 6-2, the offense needed a change. Aaron Rodgers and the rest of the offense has been stifled in back-to-back weeks by two great defenses in the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.

As the backup running back, Starks has played better than Lacy. In five fewer carries, he has 334 yards and one touchdown. He’s also been a big part of the passing game. With Jordy Nelson out for the year, Rodgers was left without his No. 1 weapon and needed to spread the ball around more. Starks has 19 receptions for 167 yards and two touchdowns.

Packers fan hope for the offense to get the ball rolling against the Lions. The Detroit rushing defense allow 133.8 rushing yards per game, third-most in the league, and 14 rushing touchdowns, most in the league.

Lacy will still be a part of the offense, but Starks will be the one getting the majority of carries. Expect a 60-40 split between the two backs.
