After a terrible start to the season and dissension with his star center, George Karl could soon be gone in Sacramento.
The Sacramento Kings are off to another disaster of a start and things are once again heading south fast for the franchise. With the Kings once again struggling to pick themselves off the ground that is the cellar of the Western Conference, changes appear to be on the way for the franchise.
After a reported blowup that led star center DeMarcus Cousins to cuss out George Karl following a loss, things are getting even worse in a hurry for the Sacramento Kings, as reports begin to swirl around the embattled and dysfunctional franchise.
It appears that George Karl’s future as the head coach of the Sacramento Kings could be in jeapordy, according to USA Today’s Sam Amick. Amick even suggests, that Karl’s dismissal could come as early as this week for the Sacramento Kings, should they continue to lose even more.
"If the Kings’ 1-7 record that prompted a team meeting on Tuesday gets even worse, his dismissal could come this week. Wednesday, the Kings – as irony would have it – face the same Detroit Pistons team that beat them last Dec. 13 and inspired the firing of coach Michael Malone. Or, should the early-season bleeding subside enough to calm the waters, Karl’s firing could come in the summer."
With frustrations in Sacramento already boiling over between star and coach, the team can’t afford to dig a hole any bigger when it comes to their current record of 1-7. If they do, things are going to escalate even further for the franchise, and one that will probably lead to the dismissal of Karl.
After receiving a big $15 million contract that doesn’t expire until 2018, the Kings would be paying a lot of money to remove George Karl. This comes after they have hired and fired multiple head coaches in recent years.
The story of tension between George Karl and DeMarcus Cousins has long been noted, ever since Karl’s arrival. Yet the Kings thought they could make it work between the two. They couldn’t, and now it appears that a coach could very well be on the way out soon and it’s back to square one for the franchise, if they ever left there.
