To some people layups are one of the most boring parts of basketball. With so many great athletes who also happen to be giant-sized running around, simply dropping the ball off the backboard or over the rim instead of throwing down a monster dunk is just not fun. On Thursday night the Golden State Warriors were playing basketball and because he needs to make sure everyone knows that anything he does has a chance to be fun, Stephen Curry decided to make layups fun.

Considering all the Warriors and Curry have done this season as far as highlights go, this one seems pretty tame. But a deeper look shows that it really was an impressive set of moves from Curry and is very much deserving of a highlight.

Curry goes about this in a perfect way. He starts the play off with some fancy ball handling to throw the defense off-balance and get people initially excited. Without that first burst of creativity and skill the rest of the play would have been impressive but a letdown.

After the fancy dribbling, though, Curry finishes the play well. Karl-Anthony Towns has been a really good defensive player early in his career thanks to his size, length and mobility, yet Curry unleashes a layup that completely throws his timing off and leaves him flailing at air as the ball falls through the hoop.

So count Steph Curry in as a member of #teamlayup. And after tonight Towns may be joining him there out of appreciation.
