Oklahoma Sooners vs. Baylor Bears

The undefeated Baylor Bears continue to get no love in the College Football Playoff rankings as they were left out of the top-four once again in the second set of rankings. However, they’ll have their best chance to prove themselves yet on Saturday night as they welcome the Oklahoma Sooners to McLane Stadium for a huge Big 12 matchup. Baker Mayfield, Samaje Perine, and the rest of Bob Stoops’ crew have College Football Playoff hopes of their own and knocking off Baylor on the road would go a long way in making their case as a one-loss team. Freshman Jarrett Stidham, Shock Linwood, and Corey Coleman have plans of their own, though, as they look to remain unbeaten and earn a signature win that will put finally bump them into the top-four.

Keys to Victory

As is customary for a Big 12 matchup, this game is going to be all about putting big numbers on the scoreboard. These teams both have defenses, but really only in theory so the offenses aren’t actually playing catch out there. However, Baker Mayfield is going to have to rise to this big occasion for the Sooners. In their lone loss on the season to the rival Texas Longhorns and in a close call against the Tennessee Volunteers, Mayfield was shaky for at least portions of the game, subsequently putting them in a hole. Against the potent Baylor attack, the Sooners can’t afford any slip-ups on Mayfield’s part.

The key for the Bears also focuses in on the quarterback position. Corey Coleman is unreal as a receiver and Shock Linwood has proven to be dynamic as a running back, but Baylor’s hopes rest on the shoulders of true freshman Jarrett Stidham. Stidham was highly productive in his first start after the injury to Seth Russell, but he’s never been in a moment as the one that he’ll be in the heart of on Saturday night. How he holds up under that pressure with so little experience is crucial for the Bears.

Prediction

I believe in Stidham and I believe in the Baylor Bears. This one is going to be a ton of fun, but I think Baylor pulls through and throws their hat definitively in the College Football Playoff mix.
