Alabama dominant again in SEC with win over Mississippi State

Defense was the name of the game for both the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the early going of their huge SEC clash in Davis Wade Stadium. Neither Dak Prescott and the Bulldogs or Derrick Henry and the Tide could get anything rolling on the offensive side of the ball in the early going. In fact, the first score of the game came off of a Cyrus Jones punt return. As the game wore on, though, the Alabama offense finally started clicking while Prescott and the Bulldogs remained stagnant.

Even with Kenyan Drake likely suffering a broken arm, the Crimson Tide offense was moving the ball with ease. Calvin Ridley got things going by making a big play off of a short pass that went for a touchdown. Henry followed suit as he got the ball across the goal line with two huge runs and solid work otherwise, as well. Things took a more serious tone in the fourth quarter after a scary injury to Mississippi State receiver De’Runnya Wilson, but the outcome didn’t change after the junior was carted off the field. It looked like a battle early, but it wound up just being an Alabama blowout for their seventh consecutive victory.

Three stars

Derrick Henry remained a star for the Crimson Tide as the running back carried the ball 22 times for 204 yards and two touchdowns.

Cyrus Jones was fantastic in multiple facets of the game on Saturday. Despite the Bulldogs trying to attack him because of his size, he was a beast in the secondary. Moreover, he also had a 69-yard punt return for a touchdown to his credit on the afternoon.

The Alabama front seven gets their own star yet again. They have their stars, but the whole unit is just so dominant in rushing the passer and putting pressure on the offense and that continued against the Bulldogs.

Highlights

Odds

Alabama came into this contest as the seven-point favorites and had no trouble covering the spread. However, the two teams hit well below the over/under that was set at 51 points.

Next Week

Alabama gets a respite from a tough run in their SEC schedule as they’re in Tuscaloosa to face Charleston Southern.

The Bulldogs will continue SEC action and try to rebound from this brutal loss next week on the road against Arkansas.
