Kyrie Irving is nearing his return for the Cavaliers but Cavs coach David Blatt still says he has a way to go before he can suit up and play.

Kyrie Irving is making his way back from a fractured kneecap that he suffered in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Irving, upon receiving surgery, was told he would be out between 3 to for 4 months, but the Cavaliers have taken a slow approach with his rehab. He has been out for 5 months now.

On Friday, Irving was cleared for weight-bearing activities and the team’s training staff can now intensify his leg-strengthening assignment going forward. Irving will most likely have to wait another week before he can resume basketball activities. The Cavaliers entering Saturday are 8-1 and have no reason to rush Irving back.

Coach David Blatt said the all-star guard has a ways to go before he can make his season debut, but in the end it will most likely be Irving’s decision. Whenever he has trust in his knee again and feels comfortable to play, he will step back on the court.

Once he does return to playing basketball, the Cavaliers will be even more lethal than they already are. The Cavs are averaging 102.6 points per game and that will surely go up once Irving returns to the lineup. He has a career scoring average of 20.1 and spreads the floor so well for the Cavs with his dynamic shooting ability.
