Cordarrelle Patterson came to life in Oakland with a monster kick-return touchdown

One of the most disappointing developments for the Minnesota Vikings over the past few seasons has been the ineffectiveness of Cordarrelle Patterson. Despite his undeniable physical gifts, he’s never developed into the offensive big-play threat that they’d hoped he’d be for the organization. However, he showed the Oakland Raiders that you still have to respect his talent, especially in the return game.

After a Derek Carr touchdown pass to give Oakland the lead, the kick sailed Patterson’s way. It actually hit the ground and took an odd hop that Patterson had a difficult time fielding. Once he secured it, though, Patterson took off down the left sideline and no one was catching him once he got a head of steam and had the end zone on his mind:

In terms of breakaway speed, there aren’t many players in the NFL that can match what Patterson can do with his legs. When he gets space and has a lane to run through, he’s just a blur going down the field. You have a better chance of him accidentally tripping than of anyone on the field actually catching.

Moreover, it was a timely score for the Vikings from Patterson. After the Carr touchdown, Oakland seemed as if they might be seizing the momentum of the game. However, Patterson changed that with one blazing play that gave his team back the lead.
