Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston scored a late, game-winning touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys played a low-scoring game on Sunday, which ultimately ended up being a battle of attrition after each team traded three first-half field goals.

The Cowboys led 6-3 entering halftime, and the score would remain throughout the second half until late in the fourth quarter when Bucs’ quarterback Jameis Winston officially had his coming out moment as a pro.

Winston, the first-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, led a nine-play, 56-yard drive capped off with a bootleg from the one-yard line to give Tampa Bay a 10-6 lead with under one minute remaining, a lead that would hold to give Tampa its fourth win of the season:

What’s amazing about the play is that it almost didn’t happen. On the previous play, Winston attempted to score on a quarterback run, but fumbled the ball mid-air as he was attempting to leap and break the goal line:

The Buccaneers, however, caught a break because the play was called back thanks to a defensive holding penalty that gave Tampa Bay a fresh set of downs, and four more plays under a minute remaining to try and punch it in:

Entering the day, the Cowboys were 2-6, and on the verge of falling out of the NFC East race completely. Controversy has surrounded the Cowboys for weeks; between the injuries to Tony Romo and Dez Bryant, the photos that emerged of Greg Hardy, and the altercation that was reported between Hardy and teammate Demarcus Lawrence, Dallas has been a total mess. Tampa Bay entered the day 3-5, but an optimistic 3-5, and an improved team in recent weeks.

The loss dropped Dallas to 2-7, and unless they win out, are probably close to being eliminated from playoff contention as a team could be at this point in the season.
