The New England Patriots are hoping to stay undefeated against the New York Giants on Sunday evening, but they might be without one of their top playmakers. In the first half, wide receiver Julian Edelman left the contest when he limped off with a leg injury. After being evaluated on the sideline, Edelman went to the locker room. There is no update on his condition.

Edelman is the top target for quarterback Tom Brady, who is in the midst of a MVP season. Edelman has been a top slot receiver over the last few years, ever since Wes Welker moved on to play with the Denver Broncos. Edelman caught 105 passes in 2013 for 1,056 yards and 10 touchdowns. Last year, Edelman was a huge reason why New England got to the Super Bowl and earned the franchise’s fourth world championship, catching 92 passes for 972 yards with four touchdowns.

Without Edelman on the field, the Patriots will rely more than ever on tight end Rob Gronkowski and the running of LeGarrette Blount. New England has a comfortable lead in the AFC East, so if Edelman misses a few weeks, it is far from the end of the world. The main thing is that Edelman can get back for the stretch run, if he has to miss any time at all.

Edelman has been subject to getting hurt in the past, missing two games last year and seven more back in 2012.
