After benching Peyton Manning in Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak admitted that he should not have let Manning play to begin with.

Peyton Manning passed Brett Favre to become the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards on Sunday, but that was the only good news that came from the game. Manning was pulled from the game after he only completed five out of twenty passes, for 35 yards and four interceptions.

It was learned on Monday morning that Manning has a partially torn planter fascia along with the bruised ribs he is dealing with. After the game on Sunday, while meeting with reporters,  Kubiak took the blame for playing Manning in the first place and revealed that he should have benched Manning on Saturday instead of during the game.

"“Let me just say this, I’m obviously very disappointed with the football game. Give Kansas City credit, they played a great football game and they had them ready to go. I’m disappointed in myself. This is on me. I probably shouldn’t have made a decision not to play him (Manning) in the game, and I needed to make that, tough decision there. He practiced Friday, you know, felt good. Came out of practice Friday and Saturday, as you all know his ribs were bothering him a little bit, and I probably should have right there said ‘no, he’s not going to go this week.’”"

Benching a Hall of Fame quarterback like Manning is a tough thing to do, but Manning is clearly hurting right now and his play is being affected by his injuries. That was only made more apparent after it was revealed that Manning had a partially torn plantar fascia and the Broncos were unsure how that would affect the remainder of his season.

The Broncos travel to Chicago to take on the Chicago Bears next. Kubiak revealed on Monday that backup quarterback Brock Osweiler will get the start over Manning.
