Hakeem Nicks will reportedly sign with the New York Giants.

Once upon a time Hakeem Nicks was the number one option on a Super Bowl winning team, grabbing 7 touchdowns and posting 1,192 yards in 2011 with the New York Giants. Fast forward to 2015 and Nicks has become an NFL burn out. Since departing from New York in 2013, Nicks has had two very unsuccessful runs with the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans.  However now it seems that the 27-year-old Nicks is attempting to turn his career around by returning to the site of his former glory. According to reports from Fox Sport’s Mike Garafolo and NFL.com’s Conor Orr, Nicks will sign with his former team as the Giants look to bring in another receiver, to lessen the blow of losing Victor Cruz for another season.

In their heyday Eli Manning and Hakeem Nicks combined to create one of the most explosive partnerships in the NFL, but for some reason the chemistry between the two seemed to wane after their Super Bowl victory over the Patriots. The former 2009 first round draft pick went from the Giants’ leading receiver in Super Bowl XLVI with 10 receptions and 109 yards, to being cut by the Titans this September. Failing to make an impact on the Titans roster, especially with a rookie quarterback coming in, was clearly the nadir of Nicks’ tenure in the NFL. However things started to go south for him when he fractured his fifth metatarsal in New York during the 2012 pre-season.

Perhaps returning to familiar surroundings will help Nicks regain some of the confidence he lost in Indianapolis and Nashville. The Giants currently sit at the top of the lowly NFC East at 5-5. If Nicks can come in and give Eli Manning a solid redzone target perhaps situations like Sunday’s catch debacle can be avoided. Only time will tell if Nicks can regain any of his lost brilliance.
