Corey Brewer sent Rockets-Blazers to overtime with a wild three

The Houston Rockets played their first game since Kevin McHale was fired as head coach on Wednesday as they took on the Portland Trail Blazers. After falling behind and things looking like more of the same for the struggling Rockets, the team started showing real fight and came back to have a shot to tie it at the end of the fourth quarter. That was Corey Brewer’s cue to come to life.

James Harden brought the ball down the left side of the floor, but rather than take the final shot himself, threw a lobbing cross-court pass to Brewer on the right side of the floor. Brewer then put up a wild shot off one leg from well beyond the arc. Despite how the shot looked initially, it was money:

That’s certainly not your prototypical game-tying three to force overtime, but I doubt the Rockets are looking for style points as of right now. They’re just looking for any chance to win and any positive signs that they can find.

The Rockets carried the momentum from that Brewer shot into the extra period, as well. Despite a furious comeback attempt from Portland, Houston picked up the win to move to 5-7 and, hopefully, get things back on track in a post-McHale world.
