Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs is the 2015 National League Cy Young winner, beating out Clayton Kershaw and Zach Greinke for the award.

Jake Arrieta was the face of the Chicago Cubs’ return to the playoffs as the most dominant pitcher in baseball, so it was little surprise on Wednesday night when he was named the 2015 National League Cy Young winner. Arrieta beating out Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Clayton Kershaw and teammate Zach Greinke to win his first Cy Young.

Arrieta was lights out for the Cubs in 2015, becoming one of the few guaranteed wins on the mound in baseball. Second half numbers of 12-1 and an almost too good to be true 0.75 ERA earning Arrieta the Cy Young over Kershaw and Greinke in the end when the baseball writers voted on the award.

Greinke finished in second place with 68 first place votes in a tight race. Kershaw finished right behind in third place with 31 place votes while Arrieta finished with 79 votes as the voters were split on who they felt deserved the NL Cy Young.

Arrieta’s dominance and wins in the second half of the season earned him the Cy Young over teammates Kershaw and Greinke as the Cubs ace was a cut above the rest. Some voters felt differently, but in the end 79 first place votes were enough to give Arrieta his first Cy Young. Cubs fans will hope a first World Series ring is in their future, as with Arrieta’s emergence as an ace, things are looking up at Wrigley Field.
