Wisconsin Badgers vs. Georgetown Hoyas

Neither the Wisconsin Badgers nor the Georgetown Hoyas have gotten off to ideal starts to the 2015-16 campaign, but rebounding from adversity is how you can tell just how good a team really is.

Georgetown is winless through two games after losing a tough season-opener to Redford at home and then traveling to rival Maryland to lose another tight one against the Terrapins. Progress has been shown, though, as the Terrapins are the No. 3 team in the country and Georgetown held a lead for most of the game on the road.

Wisconsin, on the other hand, is 2-1 this season after piling up consecutive wins following a terrible opening loss, just like Georgetown had, against the inferior Western Illinois Leathernecks. This team may not be quite the same as it was last year when it had a Final Four run with guys like Sam Dekker and Frank Kaminsky.

Keys to Victory

Wisconsin Badgers

Bronson Koenig has been the hot hand through the first three games and Wisconsin needs to get him the ball as well as Nigel Hayes in the post. Don’t try to fix something that hasn’t been broken.

However, the addition of a couple of other scorers — although Vitto Brown has been solid — would be ideal for the Badgers who are still trying to figure out how to put up points without the sharpshooting Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker, the hustle machine.

Georgetown Hoyas

Clearly the Hoyas have talent with Bradley Hayes in the post and D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera at the top of the key. Those two lead the team in scoring, respectively, and the former also leads the team in rebounding with 10 per game. However, there is going to have to be some solid bench play for this team to really succeed.

Good college basketball teams can run 9-to-11 guys deep, and sometimes even 12, but the Hoyas have had just eight contributors this season while three more have played, but have yet to record a point. More bench production will be needed to wear down this tough Wisconsin team.

Prediction

Bradley Hayes is going to have yet another solid game in the post as Wisconsin will have a tough time trying to man him up. However, the Badgers will make it close as they’ve learned from their early-season loss. Three-pointers will be had all day long by Wisconsin, but it won’t be enough in the end.

Final Score: Wisconsin 67, Georgetown 71
