The Seattle Mariners are expected to trade first baseman Mark Trumbo this offseason as they look to re-tool their roster as they hope to contend.

The Seattle Mariners finished with a disappointing record of 76-86 last season. This caused the Mariners to fire their front office staff. The new front office, led by general manager Jerry Dipoto, is aggressively re-tooling their roster. One player who rival executives expect to be traded is Mark Trumbo.

Mark Trumbo was traded to the Mariners after a disappointing stint with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Trumbo showed a bit of the power that he showed with the Angels from 2011 to 2013. He hit 22 homers last season. 13 of them came with the Mariners, who play in a noted pitcher’s park that is tough on home run hitters. He had a .759 OPS and a 108 OPS+ (100 is league average). He had a 95 OPS+ in 2014 with the Diamondbacks.

Trumbo primarily played in the outfield last season. He played in 88 games in the outfield. He also appeared in 23 games as a first baseman. He is likely better off as a first baseman because he had a .970 fielding percentage in the outfield. He struggled to judge fly balls and line drives.

Mark Trumbo would be a good fit for teams that are looking to add a power bat to their lineup. The San Francisco Giants could be interested in him because they are likely going to look to upgrade in the outfield. The Giants have made due with far worse defensive outfielders than Trumbo (such as Michael Morse). Trumbo would add some power to the Giants lineup.

Trumbo would also be a good fit for the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles don’t have many prospects to offer, but the Mariners need to upgrade their rotation. Miguel Gonzalez would be a good starting point for the Orioles, but they’d likely need to add more to get Trumbo.
