James Harden apparently doesn’t concern himself with grabbing easy rebounds

The Houston Rockets and James Harden have endured a multitude of hardships to start the 2015-16 NBA season, most of those problems brought on by their own doing. Harden and virtually the entire Rockets roster has looked out-of-sync and largely apathetic for most of the season. Apparently those issues haven’t gone anyway judging by Harden’s effort against the Detroit Pistons on Monday night.

Harden was getting back to play defense in transition. After giving an uninspired attempt at stopping the ball or trying to get a hand on a pass, Ersan Ilyasova missed the lay-up. The rebound was right there with Harden being the closest man to the ball. Rather than grab it and break the other way, the bearded one just gave up and watched it fall off the rim, allowing Detroit to grab it and score:

There’s no possible explanation for what Harden was doing on that play that sufficiently defends it. Even if you say he thought a teammate would grab the board, why not even make a move towards the ball just in case? That’s just a sincere lack of caring.

Kevin McHale is gone from Houston and things aren’t getting much better for the Rockets. This was a team expected to potentially compete for a title coming into the season; now they look like a team that will be lucky to win a game in the postseason, if they even have the opportunity to make it into the playoffs.
