After the Los Angeles Dodgers lost Johnny Cueto in free agency, the team is reportedly intrigued by free agent Johnny Cueto.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have to be reeling right now.

After the team thought they were in good position to re-sign free-agent Zack Greinke, the Arizona Diamondbacks swooped in and stole Greinke from out of nowhere. While the Dodgers have perennial Cy Young candidate Clayton Kershaw, there’s no doubting that Greinke was the team’s best pitcher in 2015, as he boasted an insane 1.66 ERA to go with a 19-3 record.

Now that Greinke and that tremendous is production of his is gone, the Dodgers are reportedly setting their sights on the next top free agent on the market, Johnny Cueto. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers are “intrigued” by the free-agent star.

With Greinke gone, going after Cueto makes all the sense in the world. He had a tremendous season last year for the Cincinnati Reds, followed by giving the Kansas City Royals an extra push toward winning the World Series. Now that he’s a free agent, he’s in a very good position on the open market to get paid.

The Dodgers need a fallback option and can give Cueto the money that he wants. With a team like the Dodgers, Cueto could excel, especially with some of the deep parks in the National League West.

Losing Greinke is a big blow for the Dodgers, but they can soften it by adding a guy like Johnny Cueto if they can make a deal work out between the two sides.
