T.J. McDonald tried to tee-off on Michael Floyd but missed and blew up his teammate Janoris Jenkins

The St. Louis Rams defense has been struggling as of late, despite a multitude of talent on that side of the ball. In Week 13, they weren’t getting a break as they took on the vaunted Arizona Cardinals offense. Rams safety T.J. McDonald tried to step up and make a big first quarter play on defense, but wound up just making St. Louis look worse in the process.

After a reception by Cardinals receiver Michael Floyd, McDonald came charging up the field to try and lay a bit hit on the Arizona receiver. McDonald didn’t have the greatest timing in trying to lay the hit, causing him to completely whiff on Floyd. However, he did lay a big hit on his teammate in cornerback Janoris Jenkins, who got completely laid out by McDonald:

That hit would have been amazing had it actually landed on Floyd and not on his teammate. Instead, it’s the latest edition to the NFL comedy reel.

After McDonald and the Rams defense saw this happen on that drive, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Cardinals continued the drive and went on to score a touchdown. Their defense really needs to step it up if the Rams want to salvage this season; step one is not hit-sticking teammates.
