The Houston Rockets are rumored to be interested in trading for Suns forward Markieff Morris

Daryl Morey and the Houston Rockets are fully aware that something has to change with their team moving forward. James Harden, Dwight Howard, and company have fallen tremendously short of expectations to start the 2015-16 season. Having already fired Kevin McHale as head coach, the Rockets are still looking for answers. Apparently Morey and the front office believe that Phoenix Suns forward Markieff Morris could be the answer.

According to Marc Stein of ESPN, the Rockets are interested in possibly trading for the Suns forward:

As Stein states in the rumor, Morris is pretty obviously being pushed out of Phoenix right now as they are ready to move on. Subsequently, it’s not shocking that a front office as obsessed with value and assets as Morey and Houston would see the value in possibly making a trade when it may not take much to lure him away from the Suns.

However, the question that actually needs to be asked beyond what kind of value the Rockets could get in such a trade is if the trade would actually make sense for Houston.

Speaking purely in terms of skill, any team would like to bring Morris in; he’s a versatile player that can play both forward positions effectively and can score and rebound well from both positions. Beyond that scope, though, he’s the last player that the Rockets need to add right now.

By all accounts, one of the biggest issues with this Houston team right now is their effort and chemistry. How then would it make sense to trade for a guy who is largely being pushed out of a team for causing problems to similar aspects of said team? It doesn’t.

Trade talks are going to ramp up in the next week with dozens of players becoming eligible for trades on Dec. 15 and Morris will surely be a player that’s widely discussed. That said, the Rockets should walk away despite the low price tag on him at this point.
