According to reports, the Arizona Diamondbacks are still targeting Mike Leake.

The Arizona Diamondbacks aren’t stopping while they’re ahead. After signing free agent Zack Greinke to shock of everyone, the Diamondbacks are still looking to add even more top pitching to their rotation. They are exploring both the free agency and trade routes, as they try to build one of the most dominant rotations in the league.

According to Jon Heyman, the Diamondbacks are still targeting free agent pitcher Mike Leake, even after committing $206 million to Greinke.

Heyman does note that the Diamondbacks plan to see what’s out there in trade market before Leake, but the fact that they are targeting Leake, shows that they still have plenty of money to spend and our serious about putting a top rotation out on the field.

With Zack Greinke and All-Star Patrick Corbin in the rotation already, the Diamondbacks have a good rotation ready to go for 2016, especially with talented young players that could possibly join the rotation. Adding a solid arm like Leake might just be the tipping point for them in the National League West race, if signing Greinke wasn’t already the tipping point.

Leake has plenty of suitors in free agency, and with the size of the deals being thrown around thus far, some team is certainly going to commit a lot of money to him. Whether or not it is the Diamondbacks, remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain when it comes to the Diamondbacks, and that is that they are a team ready to contend.

They already have a top offense in baseball, but now they are going after having a top pitching staff to match it.
