MLB Rumors: Scott Kazmir wants bigger deal than the one Iwakuma got

Scott Kazmir reportedly wants more money than what Hisashi Iwakuma received from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The ridiculous money being thrown around thus far in MLB Free Agency is making follow up deals rise as a result. When players are receiving insane amounts of money from a team, other players see those deals and think they’re worth more than what someone else got.

According to Ken Rosenthal, Scott Kazmir is one of those players, as he wants more money than the deal that Hisashi Iwakuma received from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

After the Dodgers lost Zack Greinke, the team was in need of adding another starter to the rotation and inked Iwakuma to a three-year $45 million deal. While the Dodgers are still looking for a top pitcher, perhaps a Johnny Cueto, to replace Greinke, the Iwakuma deal is having ramifications on the rest of free agency.

Scott Kazmir sees himself worth more than the $15 million a year that Iwakuma got, and it will be interesting to see if any team is willing to pay him the money that he wants. He had a nice year in 2015, finishing with a 3.10 ERA. While he started out hot with the Oakland Athletics, he wasn’t as effective with the Houston Astros after they acquired him.

Still, his prior seasons suggest that he could be a very good middle-of-the-rotation starter for a team. Whether or not a team is willing to give him a deal worth more than $15 million a year is another story. The current market for pitchers and the exorbitant amount of money being spent by teams would suggest that he probably will get what he wants.
