Cubs Rumors: Chicago looking to sign Jason Heyward

The Chicago Cubs are spending their way to the top of free agency, and are looking to add Jason Heyward before the Winter Meetings are over.

When the Chicago Cubs stormed to the NLCS this past postseason, everyone anointed them ahead of schedule. That’s something that Theo Epstein is taking to heart, as the Cubs being ahead of schedule means that they’re in the position to spend now and get even better than we all thought they’d be in 2016.

Already the Cubbies have added Ben Zobrist and John Lackey, and are now eyeing another NL Central player to round out their Winter Meetings haul.

According to Jon Morosi from FOX Sports, the Cubs are very much still interested in Jason Heyward, even after giving big money to both John Lackey and Ben Zobrist.

This isn’t all that surprising, as Heyward has been a guy that Chicago has been eying for a while now, and he seems to fit the direction the team is going. It doesn’t sound like the Cubs are going to swap Starlin Castro for Brett Gardner, even if they end up trading Castro away for someone else.

Either way, the Cubs are rolling right now in free agency and completely dominating the flow of things without really caring about everything else that is going on around them. Chicago is spending like we haven’t seen before, and it’s something that is going tomato North Siders very happy in 2016.
