The New Orleans Pelicans are rumored to have interest in a trade for Suns forward Markieff Morris

Phoenix Suns forward Markieff Morris wants out of his current situation, as has been evidenced by his comments and the fact that he’s racking up more DNPs and essentially garbage time usage with each passing game. With the NBA trade market set to ramp up, the only question is where the forward is set to end up. It seems that the New Orleans Pelicans are one likely destination for the 26-year-old.

According to a report from Shams Charania and Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo!, the Pelicans are now in the race to try and make a deal with the Suns to acquire Morris. The Pelicans front office is keen on the notion of putting Morris in the frontcourt alongside Anthony Davis, per the Yahoo! report.

Morris has wanted out of Phoenix for several months now, though he’s changed his tune from time to time since his first trade demand back in July. However, with dozens of players becoming eligible to be traded on Tuesday, Dec. 15, it’s becoming increasingly likely that his demand will finally be met in the coming weeks.

Despite his struggles and disgruntled behavior in Phoenix in the 2015-16 season, Morris is certainly an enticing trade target for many teams. He’s proven that he can be a viable NBA scorer and a quality rebounder with positional versatility.

It’s understandable then why the Pelicans would be interested in wanting to pair a player of his talents next to Davis. The question that remains, as any deal between Phoenix and New Orleans is still in preliminary talks, is what it would take to get a trade done.
