Week 13 Most Valuable Player

Cam Newton, QB Carolina Panthers

The Panthers were in serious danger of suffering their first loss of the 2015 season, but Cam Newton simply would not allow it to happen.

Newton connected on five (!) touchdown passes in a 41-38 victory over the New Orleans Saints, and he was every bit as good as that statistic suggests. Newton tallied 331 passing yards while adding 49 more on the ground, and he completed more than 68% of his passes on the day. When combined with the rest of his production, Newton tallied a 122.1 quarterback rating (86.7 QBR) on the day, and the good folks at Pro Football Focus gave Carolina’s centerpiece the highest grade of any quarterback during the 2015 season.

Yes, the Saints have a porous defense, but Cam Newton was lights-out in carrying a sub-par group of weapons to a 40-point scoring day, and he made every play possible to lead the Panthers to yet another win. At this juncture, he is the clear front-runner for season-long MVP honors, and it is not difficult to make an argument that this was his best individual performance for this season.

Runner-up: Ben Roethlisberger, QB Pittsburgh Steelers
