A look at the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League final group stage standings

Match Day 6 of Champions League play seemingly had things getting far more hectic than they had through the first five matches of the group stage. The final match day saw Manchester United playing for their lives in the competition in the final 10 minutes against Wolfsburg, as well as several other teams facing a similar situation.

However, the group stage has now come to a close and it’s now onto the knockout stage for the Champions League. The top-two teams from each group will advance to the Round of 16 for home-away two-leg matchups where the winner based on aggregate will move forward in the tournament.

This is how the standings played out for each of the eight groups in the 2015-16 Champions League (Note: the tie-breaker is based on goals scored in the two involved teams’ two head-to-head meetings:

With the top-two teams in each group advancing, many of the biggest clubs in world football are still remaining in the competition, which should make for some highly entertaining sport once we reach the knockout stages. Moreover, the third-place teams heading to compete in the UEFA Europa League.

The draw for the Round of 16 will take place on Monday, Dec. 14 with the first legs of those matches being played on Feb. 16-17 and Feb. 23-24 after the New Year.
