New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram could be out for the season with a shoulder injury.

The season just keeps getting worse for the New Orleans Saints. After losing to the undefeated Carolina Panthers on Sunday with a late fourth-quarter drive from Cam Newton and his Panthers and slipping to 4-8 for the year, the Saints are now out of the wildcard race and their season is realistically over. Well, now it’s just got worse with the reported news of an season ending injury for Mark Ingram.

Ingram has been more than adequate this season, playing in all 12 games, rushing for 769 yards and catching 50 passes for a very impressive 405 yards. There is no official word from New Orleans itself, although an injury report will be published later on Wednesday, but it is not looking good for Ingram and 2015.

NFL Network are reporting that Ingram has suffered a serious shoulder injury with fear that it has ended his season. With the Saints’ season baring little relevance, other than perhaps saving Sean Payton’s job, it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. If Ingram is able to rest, recuperate and not miss too much time during the off-season, the Saints could get him back in 2016 at peak fitness having not used up all his legs in 2015.

Perhaps the person this effects the most is Payton. There has been negative feeling towards the coach after another poor season. Riding the aging arm of Drew Brees, the Saints have been truly dreadful on defense, and with Ingram now out for the year, if New Orleans go on to lose out the season, Payton could be a whole lot of trouble.
