Denver Broncos name Brock Osweiler starting quarterback for Week 15
By Ian O'Brien
After keeping their cards hidden for a brief period of time, the Broncos have officially announced their Week 15 starting quarterback.
Denver Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler endured the first loss of his career as an NFL starting quarterback when the Broncos lost in a close game to the Oakland Raiders. This caused Broncos fans to speculate whether the team would give the starting job back to Peyton Manning, who was benched for underwhelming play and injuries. Osweiler has filled in nicely since, and the Broncos have decided to keep going with their young quarterback against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Osweiler cemented his role as the starter when the Broncos defeated the New England Patriots in overtime to give them their first loss of the season. The Broncos offense had another sluggish performance in their loss to the Raiders, as they were held to 12 points. However, the Broncos are ultimately deciding to give Osweiler more experience since he appears to be their quarterback of the future.
It remains to be seen whether Manning will ever receive another start for the Broncos, but his performance during the season was far from reassuring. He still leads the league in interceptions with 17, and the Broncos offense looked nowhere near like the unit it had since Manning took over as the starter.
At the very least, Osweiler will have the opportunity to receive guidance from one of the greatest players in NFL history.
