QB. North Dakota State. Carson Wentz. 41. player. 57.
A lot of people will be surprised by this pick, but they shouldn’t be. Let’s review. Jay Cutler is in the midst of his most efficient season as quarterback of the Chicago Bears. He’s played well, but it’s important to remember he’s only thrown 16 touchdowns and still has a number of brutal turnovers that have decided games in 2015.

There are also two other key facts. He’s going to turn 33 years old next season and has a history of suffering injuries. Everybody knows what happens when age gets involved. Add in the serious lack of depth at the position behind him and the atmosphere is begging for the team to go get a quarterback. GM Ryan Pace is like any in his position. He wants his own. Where better to start the search.

Don’t be fooled by his playing in the FCS. Carson Wentz is a legitimate prospect with talent. He’s 6’6″ with solid mobility to not only avoid rushers but take off and run the ball. His arm has enough strength to go downfield and he delivers it with timing and accuracy. Best of all, he plays well under pressure, having led North Dakota State to a national title in 2014. He may not be ready to play right away, but he’s a good talent who can develop into something more.
