BYU Cougars vs. No. 20 Utah Utes

There is going to be no loves lost between the BYU Cougars and the Utah Utes when the two teams square off for the Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday. The two teams have a long history with each other, and with each passing game, the rivalry seems to get more and more bitter.

Both teams had high expectations going into the season, but a case of tough losses and injuries kept both teams from potentially being in the conversation for a top bowl game in college football. Nonetheless, these two teams will have no problem going out on the field and brawling with each other.

Details for Saturday’s game are below.

Date: Saturday, December 19
Start Time: 3:30 p.m. ET
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Stadium: Sam Boyd Stadium
TV Info: ABC

Keys to Victory

The Utah Utes are going to have to put points up on the board and rely on their defense to win. There isn’t really anything flashy about their offense and with Travis Wilson at quarterback, the team can struggle in the passing game as well as to get the ball in the end zone.

The BYU Cougars, behind quarterback Tanner Magnum, can put up points on the board, as they have dynamic receivers and an incredible passing game. The Utah defense does a good job of holding the best offenses down, but if Magnum can stretch them down the field, they can be beat.

That’s where Utah is going to have to really slow things down on offense. They’re going to have to pound the football and the receivers are going to have to help their quarterback out. This isn’t going to be a flashy game for the Utes, it almost never is.

This game is going to be methodical in approach, and if BYU can’t pass the football, they’re going to be in major trouble as the Utes don’t let anyone run the football on them. It’s going to come down to which quarterback can lead his team to victory.

Prediction

This game isn’t going to be pretty for anyone watching. It’s a rivalry between two gritty teams and it’s going to be physical. The Utes are coming into a game where they are going to have to keep up offensively or they’re going to be done with in a hurry.

The Cougars are going to have to jump on the Utes early, or they will be in for a long physical day. This is where the best quarterback will come into play, and that’s BYU’s Tanner Magnum.

Magnum will make big throws in the second half that will break down the Utes’ defense and he will get the best of Travis Wilson on the opposite side. It’s a tough one, but BYU rolls.

Final Score: BYU 27, Utah 17
