Too often, college basketball fans get lulled to sleep with the cupcake early-season schedule for some of the nation’s top teams. This Saturday could end that snooze for everyone as the No. 12 Villanova Wildcats and No. 8 Virginia Cavaliers will both look to notch their ninth win of the year.

Since the loss to George Washington in their second game, the Cavaliers have been on an absolute tear, winning seven games in a row and just putting the hurt on opponents. In fact, Virginia has beat all but one team by 15 points or more during that streak.

Virginia is a veteran team with guys like Anthony Gill and Malcolm Brogdon leading the way. It seems like just yesterday that Brogdon and Gill, both sophomore at the time, were leading No. 1 seed Virginia to the Sweet 16 as the Cavaliers were the favorites to come out of the East Region in 2014, but were bounced in the Sweet 16. You can bet these guys are hungry for another shot.

As for the Wildcats, they’re looking to prove they’re more than just an average team from the new Big East. Villanova hurt its national reputation on the season already with a 23-point loss to the Oklahoma Sooners two weeks ago in a battle of top 10 teams. For a team that shoots about 31 three-pointers a game, a 30-percent clip is not doing the job from long range.
